How To Tie A Half-Windsor Knot

Words by Mr Adam Welch

A easy-to-follow video guide to mastering the versatile half Windsor tie knot.

The half Windsor is one of the tie knots you’re most likely to use in your day-to-day life. (Provided you are not employed in some kind of strange business that forces you to incessantly attend weddings throughout the year.) It’s that little bit more formal than its slightly easier-to-tie cousin, the four-in-hand, but not quite as imposing as its big brother, the full Windsor, and can be worn in both smart-casual and formal situations (though it’s particularly suited to the latter). To tie it, you’ll need a long, medium-width tie – if you go for one that is too wide, your knot might start to look a bit chunky; too short and you’ll run out of tie. You can choose to pair it with either a button-down or neat collared shirt. Ready? Then click play on the above video, and verse yourself in the whole process, step by step.
