THE JOURNAL

Winter can be a veritable disaster for your skin. Frosty temperatures and indoor heating are not conducive to a well-groomed face, and it’s only with some TLC (and a heavy dollop of moisturiser) that you can hope to stop transmogrifying into a scalier version of yourself when it’s cold. But what if you could just sleep through it: hibernate your way to handsomeness, as it were?
While we can’t guarantee that you’ll turn you from a Mr Donald Trump to a Donald Draper overnight, MR PORTER does have a number of nightstand-appropriate grooming products to keep the drying and irritating effects of winter at bay. The best part? All you have to do is close your eyes. Before you do though, scroll down for a selection of hydrating masks and eye serums that are the stuff of dreams.

The sheet mask
Sheet masks have spiked in popularity over the past couple of years (you can blame their disturbing/ironic selfie potential for that), but smoothing one over your face can do wonders that reach beyond scaring (read: irritating) your Instagram followers. These ones from 111skin landed on MR PORTER just last week, and are chock-full of nourishing ingredients which will work their magic overnight – Vitamin C to keep skin pepped up, and hyaluronic acid, known for its intense anti-ageing and moisturising properties. For some heavy-duty skin rejuvenation, alternate the sheet masks with the brand’s Celestial Black Diamond Retinol Oil, which contains a 1% concentrate of retinol oil to reduce the appearance of fine lines and keep skin looking its best.

The hydrating gel
The Hungarian dermatologist Dr Erno Laszlo founded his eponymous brand in 1927, and it counted the Duke of Windsor as a client. While that particular selling point is rooted in the past, the brand is very much focused on the future – consider the brand’s Hydra-Therapy mask, which will condition skin while you sleep. To make sure your skin reaps the full benefits, make sure it’s well cleansed first – this Detoxifying Cleansing Oil, also from Erno Laszlo, will go deep into pores to draw out impurities. After that, slather a thin layer of the mask on. It has kelp extract to boost collagen production and prickly-pear extract to moisturise, while the gel-like texture of the mask is inspired by Nasa memory foam to bring a little sci-fi technology to your grooming routine.

The overnight facial
Here’s one for the time-strapped gents. This will give you the results of a facial without having to sit through an hour of whale music in a remote spa. A hypoallergenic peel that will revive dull and tired skin overnight, this Bright Future facial from Allies of Skin is also full of manuka honey to calm inflammation and hyaluronic acid to nourish skin and prevent signs of ageing. If blemishes are more your concern, try the brand’s 1A Overnight Mask, which as well as tackling acne will transform sallow skin by stimulating your elastin and collagen production – great for rejuvenating skin after a long-haul flight or a taxing week at work.

The eye serum
When you’ve been around longer than you care to let on, the eyes will be the first things to give you away. Keep all that sagaciousness from seeping through with this Supremya Eyes at Night serum from Sisley – Paris. Tap it lightly onto your cheekbones before you go to bed to reduce puffiness and firm skin around the eyes. And, when you wake up, continue the good work with the Parisian brand’s All Day All Year anti-ageing day care cream, which will protect skin from pollution as well as harmful UVA and UVB rays – for wisdom, but without the wrinkles.
