- Words by Mr Tom M Ford, Features Writer, MR PORTER
To celebrate our new Bowers & Wilkins audio range, we visited London's Abbey Road Studios with Brit Award-winning singer-songwriter Mr Tom Odell to explore the brand's extraordinary sound quality. Having used Bowers & Wilkins audio equipment since 1988, we felt the world-famous recording suite - graced by every top recording artist imaginable from The Beatles to Mr Kanye West - was an apt setting for our film.
Formed in pursuit of the perfect loudspeaker, Bowers & Wilkins has almost 50 years' experience advancing audio technology. Founded in 1965 by Mr John Bowers and Mr Roy Wilkins, the company prides itself on exceptional sound quality and perfect ergonomics. From using Kevlar for the first time as a cone material in 1974, to its 1989 appointment of UK designer Mr Morten Warren (responsible for today's sleek, contemporary shape) - audio and design innovation has been at the forefront of the brand since its inception.
To fully showcase these products, we invited Mr Odell to record the title track from his forthcoming album, Long Way Down, which is released on 24 June. We also spoke to experienced Abbey Road engineer Mr Jonathan Allen. Through the recording, mastering and playback of a track - we see how the sound quality enjoyed by musicians and engineers translates to music lovers at home and on the move.
