Although Mr Hare had no shoe-making experience before launching his brand in 2008, he already had extensive knowledge of fashion and style (thanks to running a high-end store and working in fashion marketing). By working with only the best Italian manufacturers, he quickly learned how to make the perfect shoes.
Mr Hare carefully sources the leathers himself, from world-renowned Italian tanneries. This pair is made from top-quality calfskin, which is characterised by its lack of imperfections, ability to retain a smooth finish over time, and durability. The patent leather used on the toe caps is of the more expensive, supple kind, which should not crack or "de-laminate" with wear.
The patent leather toe cap is designed to minimize scuffing on the front of the shoes, enabling you to spend less time on care and maintenance, while the folded seams give a sleek look with clean lines. The shoes are lightweight and supple, thanks to their Blake construction and fine calfskin.
The Miller Oxfords are a style from Mr. Hare's first collection, and have been repeated every season since. The shoes are named after the author Mr Henry Miller, with other pairs taking their names from Mr George Orwell and Mr Aldous Huxley. "You have to have a story to go with your shoes," Mr Hare explains. "Like its namesake, [the Miller] can mix it in high and low society, dressed up or dressed down."
All Mr. Hare shoes are made entirely in Italy, in small factories near Florence, with immaculate care and attention to detail. Many of the workshops have been in business for over a century.
When Mr Hare founded his eponymous shoe label in London in 2008, his aim was simple: to make distinctly modern shoes that benefit from old-world quality and craftsmanship. Although Mr. Hare shoes are made to the most exacting standards in Italian factories, using only the finest leathers, it is their contemporary design that really stands out, subtly referencing culture and fashion while remaining timeless and elegant. Mr Hare says, "We are creating shoes that have the quality to last a lifetime, the design must also consider its place in every wardrobe for years to come." In many respects, this sums up the beauty of Mr. Hare shoes: their classic designs ensure a certain irreproachable style, but without the heaviness and sobriety associated with traditional leather shoes. Whether worn with classic tailoring, the latest runway-fashion, or casual weekend attire, a pair of Mr. Hare shoes will never look out of place.
