Since 1984, Sandro's unfussy, effortlessly chic clothes have come to define the elusive and near-legendary Parisian look. Launched in the Marais district of the French capital, it was not until 2008 that the brand extended its winning formula of immaculate tailoring, combined with more than a hint of le rock'n'roll attitude, to menswear. This line is overseen by Mr Ilan Chétrite, the son of Sandro's founders, who studied economics at university before joining the label. "Sandro is like a brother. I grew up with this brand and I have seen it evolve," he explains. "I really wanted to be part of the family history."

Mr Chétrite is keen to stress that Sandro's original philosophy, "the mixing of styles... non-conformism and a kind of elegant rebel attitude", has been faithfully applied to the men's line, which he sees as an alter-ego to the women's rather than a separate entity; he speaks of a design "language and philosophy that is common to both men and women" and clearly values working in aesthetic harmony with his mother, who continues to design the acclaimed women's collections.
