Few elements of the working wardrobe draw attention to themselves; only men guilty of what Mr Tom Wolfe refers to as The Secret Vice (meaning a strong interest in formal clothes; for more read Mr Wolfe's book The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby) will notice the details of a well-cut suit, a penny collar or the width of a tie. Leather goods, however, are slightly less discreet and most people will register the impact a fine briefcase makes when it hits the meeting room table. Happily, bags exist largely outside the flights of fashion, so will look stylish for years.
