Once a year, filial duty sees millions of men leave the comfort of their homes, which are central-heated and located within easy access to good food, drink and entertainment, to spend time in parental houses with none of these qualities. These stays, which all too often take place in remote areas, are characterised by a surfeit of unhealthy food, anesthetising quantities of cheap drink, a near total lack of exercise, an abundance of bad television and a strange sense of being 16 again. It's a hellish combination.
