Twice a year, in January and June, the fashion media and store buyers, along with a smattering of celebrities and bloggers, descend first upon London, and then Milan and Paris, to view the menswear collections from the world's leading designers. The clothes and accessories which are shown on the runways and at the static presentations will be available to buy in approximately six months, and will define the fashion trends later in the year. And since fashion has wider implications than simply dressing yourself each morning, the collections often reflect broader cultural and social matters too.
While the shows were once a relatively low-key industry event (somewhat akin to a trade show), they are now a large-scale affair, as designers live-stream their runway shows to hundreds of thousands worldwide, and crowds throng outside the venues hoping to spot famous attendees or be snapped by street style photographers. In fact, the amount of noise generated by the shows online can be rather overwhelming, which is why in this feature we present you with an edit of the things that we saw that resonated the most. Think of it as your executive briefing of what to look forward to this fall/ winter - and what to start wearing now, if you want to get ahead of the game.
