From Shanghai to Sydney, Los Angeles to London, last month's best-dressed men offered up a global perspective on the prevailing mood in modern menswear. While many of them favoured a timeless approach, others were more experimental: whoever imagined that wearing a low-cut vest over a shirt and tie would work? The take-home point is that it has never been easier for men to push the boundaries of style than now. But that's no invitation to tear up the rule book: a forward-thinking approach to style should still be rooted in a fundamental understanding of what looks good. As Mr Pablo Picasso said, "learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist". Our top accolade this month goes to Mr Andrew Garfield, who maintained a high sartorial standard throughout the busy promotional tour for his new movie, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Of the handful of notable outfits he stepped out in, special mention has to go to the bold floral-print Valentino trousers he wore to a photo call in Rome: a perfect example of how to push the boundaries without sacrificing style.
