When Jaguar launched the F-TYPE in 2013 it was to a chorus of deafening, yet entirely justified, hype. That's because the launch of this car represented a significant moment for the British brand. It was to become the latest iteration in a distinguished bloodline: the first true two-seater Jaguar sports car in more than 50 years, and the natural successor to none other than the E-TYPE, one of only six automobiles to have ever merited inclusion in the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art. Talk about a hard act to follow.

One year on, Jaguar returns to its sporting roots with the launch of the new, range-topping F-TYPE R Coupé. Built around a 5L supercharged V8 that produces a formidable power output of 550PS and an aluminium chassis that provides a level of torsional rigidity to rival that of a Formula One car, this is a machine offering performance that more than matches its looks.

Like that seminal Sir Paul McCartney and Mr Stevie Wonder duet, we took two Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupés - one ebony, one ivory - and placed them under the control of two very different drivers. Watch our film, above, to see what transpires.
