Paris-based Maison Kitsuné was founded in 2002 by Mr Gildas Loaëc and Mr Masaya Kuroki as a record label, championing up-and-coming electronic acts in particular. Shortly afterwards, the pair branched out to include fashion. Combining traditional standards of production with a contemporary aesthetic and attitude, Kitsuné collections have a timeless elegance about them. Mr Kuroki, who oversees the design, explains "all my influences are from the very American, 1960s East Coast style, but each season certain films or periods inspire my creations too". With its neat fit and rock'n'roll edge, the look is still distinctly French: "It's based on the French who travelled around the USA in the 1960s and fell in love with the unique American elegance of the East Coast," Mr Kuroki concludes.
Words by Mr Peter Henderson
"Kitsuné is both a record label and clothing brand. It's two passions fused into one; we enjoy music and fashion, so we created a structure that could give us happiness"
