Although Mr Alexander Mattiussi's Paris-based label, Ami, is less than a year old, it is already a firm favourite of ours. The brand's name, which means "friend" in French, reflects the designer's philosophy: to create simple, elegant clothes for a man who's not thinking about them too much, taking inspiration from his friends and the "real" men he meets. Prior to commanding his own collection, Mr Mattiussi gained experience working as a designer at Dior, Marc Jacobs and Givenchy, a period which no doubt played a part in the development of his paired-down, simple aesthetic. The secret to modernity, Mr Mattiussi believes, lies in good proportion - something he deftly combines with traditional fabrics for a pleasingly timeless result.
Words by Mr Peter Henderson
"This collection is not about fantasy. It is a proposition of real clothes for a real man"
