A true American classic worn by movie stars and presidents alike, the sweatshirt has come a long way from its humble athletic origins. Originally created as a light, comfortable alternative to woollen practice jerseys, it soon became a relaxed staple of collegiate campuses across the US, and through that, a fundamental part of the mid-20th century preppy Ivy League look. The rest, as they say, is history.
