Mr Morton's Recommendations

FAVOURITE RESTAURANT AND DISH

“I love El Chiringuito in Ibiza - the seafood there is unbelievable.”

BEST BAR

Apothékein Chinatown, New York.”

VACATION CHOICE

“On a boat around the Greek islands with close friends - it's what I've done every summer for the past 12 years. Every island has a different feel, the food is wonderfully simple and the vibe can be as exciting or relaxing as you want.”

TOP CITY

“London. Of the major, global cities, it's the one with the best pace and quality of life. It has everything, but doesn't force you to keep up, like NY or HK.”

note

FAVOURITE HOTEL

Torre di Moravola, in Umbria. It's a tiny place, with only six or seven beautiful rooms in a wonderfully restored 12th-century watchtower, run by the loveliest couple. We spent part of our honeymoon here and can't wait to come back.”

note

TYPE OF BAG

“I don't. Most of what I need is in the cloud; I can access it from anywhere.”

FAVOURED BRAND

“When it comes to brands I'm fairly promiscuous. I go through phases - I was really into Rag & bone a few years ago, now I quite like what Hedi Slimane is doing at Saint Laurent .”

note

MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN

“Bambi Northwood-Blyth.”

STYLE ICON

“Bill Murray - it's more his overall style rather than fashion sense. He is the antithesis of the egomaniac Hollywood star - it seems everyone's got a great Bill Murray story.”

note

STYLE TIP

“Layers.”

note

TAILOR

Chris Georgiou on the King’s Cross Road. It's the most unlikely place from the outside, but he is a phenomenal tailor.”

BEST SHIRT BRAND

“I have some shirts that were tailored for me by Turnbull & Asser . I'm an unusual shape (6’3” with a 38" chest) and it's hard to get a perfect fit off the peg.”

FAVOURITE SUIT

Kilgour or Canali .”

CUT OF TROUSERS

“I'm open to all sorts of trousers. If it's a classic colour, I like them to have a twist (like Maria Cornejo does with some of her stitching). But I'm increasingly getting into more experimental patterns and brights.”

note

JEANS BRAND

“I don't wear jeans often, but I like Edwin straight-cut.”

PREFERRED JACKET STYLE

“I favour a defined silhouette, coming in at the waist - more Italian than English if I'm honest.”

SHOE MAKER

“Simple, classic Derby shoes - the pairs I own from Church's and Gucci are my favourites. Grenson does some nice, more contemporary ones.”

FAVOURITE GROOMING PRODUCT

“I love the various citrus scents by Hermès - they allow me to mix it up while keeping a common thread.”

DREAM CAR

“My father bought a 911 the day after I was born - it was the first car I was ever in, so I have a soft spot for Porsches from the 1980s.”

WATCH BRAND

“An antique Rolex Oysterdate from the 1950s.”

BEST BOOK

Hopscotch by Julio Cortazar. I bought my wife this book the day after we met and left it with one of her colleagues at Daunt Books to give to her - which they never did! She found it years later though, long after we had already started going out.”

note

FAVOURITE ALBUM

“The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. My father used to live next door to Pink Floyd, heard them practice in the small hours of the morning, and subsequently became a fan. We had this album on throughout my childhood - it's a phenomenal work.”
