Mr Teo's Recommendations

FAVOURITE RESTAURANT AND DISH

Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Pocantico Hills, NY. There are no menus. The Farmer's Feast is a multi-course meal that highlights fresh produce that is in season at the farm.”

BEST BAR

“Cocktail hour at the Rose Bar at Gramercy Park Hotel. After hours at Marie's Crisis Cafe.”

VACATION CHOICE

“The chic side of Hawaii is often missed with all the incessant mai tais. I like exploring Doris Duke’s estate, diving, surfing, checking out architecture by Vladimir Ossipoff. Climb the highest summit at Mauna Kea on the Big Island and check out the stars, then go night-diving with manta rays the next night. All the fresh fish dining and relaxing at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai makes Hawaii my favourite place to go on vacation.”

TOP CITY

“New York City. I was smitten the day I arrived. And I have realised my dreams and passions here in the 25 years since. It's as civilised and cosmopolitan as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and as raw and tough as the Bronx. It is genuine and completely made up.”

FAVOURITE HOTEL

The PuLi, Shanghai. Brown's Hotel, London. Sunset Tower Hotel, Los Angeles. Le Meurice, Paris”

TYPE OF BAG

“The Mulberry Ted convertible satchel. It’s a classic satchel that converts into a backpack for back-saving hands-free portability.”

note

“Helmut Lang when Helmut was in the house. Otherwise, no favourites. They are being tested every season. I do veer towards Yves Saint Laurent , Maison Martin Margiela , AMI and Band of Outsiders .”

ESSENTIAL WARDROBE ITEM

A.P.C. Jeans, a white Polo Ralph Lauren crew neck and a grey J.Crew cotton-cashmere sweater start most of my days.”

The Hours by Michael Cunningham. A story that transcends decades, cultures and eras is always captivating to me. The Orientalist by Tom Reiss is another.”
