Mr Hranek's Recommendations

FAVOURITE RESTAURANT AND DISH

Prime Meats - weisswurst, oysters, red cabbage salad, wild mushroom spatzle, pretzel with house made mustard.”

BEST BAR

Prime Meats again. Their Manhattan is my first choice, made with rye and homemade bitters. Makes for an easy transition to a great dinner. (And they are masterful bartenders there.)”

VACATION CHOICE

“Puglia in Italy. The food is amazing, as well as the beaches, and you are never too far from a glass of rosato or a perfect espresso.”

TOP CITY

“New York City, because it is the hub of the world.”

FAVOURITE HOTEL

Sunset Tower Hotel, Los Angeles. I love the location (Sunset Blvd) and its history. But the key here is old-school service from a conscientious staff, classically styled rooms, good food and drink (Tower Bar, with Dimitri at the helm) and a very present and charming owner.”

note

TYPE OF BAG

“Day to day, some form of a tote bag with a range that includes a small black monogrammed LLBean to a cotton Hermès. For airline travel I use an olive green Marimekko school bag.”

note

FAVOURED BRAND

A.P.C. is at the top of the list for style and fit.”

ESSENTIAL WARDROBE ITEM

A.P.C. cashmere V-neck sweaters. I always travel with one, regardless of season.”

note

MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN

“The most beautiful woman I know is my wife, Yolanda.”

STYLE ICON

Lapo Elkann: I love how effortless his style seems. I like how he still wears his grandfather's (Gianni Agnelli) hand-me-down suits, uses colour, doesn't seem to follow trends, and has haphazard grooming.”

note

STYLE TIP

“Don't underestimate good tailoring.”

note

TAILOR

Ramon's Tailor Shop - "tailor to the stars".”

note

BEST SHIRT BRAND

“My closet is well stocked with shirts from Steven Alan and Brooks Brothers Black Fleece. The Steven Alan shirts look great wrinkled or pressed, tucked in or not and are very practical for the amount of travelling I do. The Brooks Brothers Oxford is thick, a slim fit and looks great with a tie.”

note

FAVOURITE SUIT

“My favourite suit is made by Brooks Brothers Black Fleece.”

note

CUT OF TROUSERS

“My favourite trousers are khaki made by RRL.”

PREFERRED JACKET STYLE

“Two button, single vent. A.P.C. or vintage Harris tweed.”

note

SHOE MAKER

“My favourite shoes as long as I have been an adult have been Alden Shell cordovan (in an Oxford and Chukka). They are classic, versatile, timeless and you only have to buy them once.”

FAVOURITE GROOMING PRODUCT

“Paul Mole Eversharp shave oil and Baxter oil-free moisturiser.”

note

DREAM CAR

“1970s Ferrari Dino- silver with red interior.”

note

WATCH BRAND

“I own several vintage Rolexes. My daily favourite is a Sub 5513, occasionally substituted by a GMT 1675. Both are of 1960s vintage.”

ESSENTIAL GADGET

“Canon S95 digital point and shoot. It is compact and fast, with many pro features.”

BEST BOOK

“My favourite book right now is a collection of non-fiction by Jim Harrison called Just Before Dark. Jim chronicles many things I love: food, travel, hunting, fishing and the outdoors.”

FAVOURITE ALBUM

“An album that I can't get enough of is the digitally remastered Exile on Main St. by the Rolling Stones. It was originally recorded at Keith's rental estate basement in the south of France. The music is raw, gutsy and infectious.”
