FAVOURITE RESTAURANT AND DISH
“One of my favourite restaurants is Buca dell'Orafo near my old apartment in Florence. Simple Tuscan food in a medieval cantina next to the Ponte Vecchio bridge.”
BEST BAR
“It's changed over the years. I always feel at home in The Golden Heart. When in town I sometimes end up at The Groucho Club. In Mumbai, Aer in Worli at the Four Seasons can be fun.”
VACATION CHOICE
“Anywhere in the right company.”
TOP CITY
“I’ve always loved London. It’s cosmopolitan, like a collection of small global villages. Most importantly, it has a sense of humour.”
FAVOURITE HOTEL
“The House Hotel in Istanbul – the city and hotel keep seducing me back. Edgar Pinto's beautifully restored Old Harbour Hotel in Fort Kochi is also a favourite.”
FAVOURED BRAND
“Belgian designers Dries Van Noten and Raf Simons , Austrian designer-turned-artist Helmut Lang; and the Japanese avant gardist Junya Watanabe – all great design visionaries. Everyday clothes, second hand things. It changes and doesn’t change all the time.”
ESSENTIAL WARDROBE ITEM
“Shoes. You can get away with most things if you have convincing shoes.”
STYLE TIP
“Cultivate your imagination.”
TAILOR
“I had a whole summer wardrobe made for myself last year whilst travelling. I tend to get my clothes altered at a small tailors on Via Ghibellina in Florence. They have re-tailored entire vintage suits for me.”
BEST SHIRT BRAND
“ Comme des Garçons ( Junya Watanabe ) make excellent shirts. When I can, I tend to have shirts made to measure.”
CUT OF TROUSERS
“A slim trouser from the old Helmut Lang collections. They were quite perfectly designed.”
JEANS BRAND
“Slim/skinny jeans that I get altered at the tailors.”
PREFERRED JACKET STYLE
“Double-breasted two-button summer jacket.”
SHOE MAKER
“An English or Italian-made classic shoe or canvas sneaker.”
FAVOURITE GROOMING PRODUCT
“My toothbrush.”
DREAM CAR
“I prefer bicycles and boats.”
WATCH BRAND
“A Jaeger leCoultre 1940s pilot watch.”
ESSENTIAL GADGET
“My smart phone.”
BEST BOOK
“Not one favourite, it depends on when and where I read it, but Gandhi's My Experiments with Truth comes to mind. I came across it when I was quite young and I've recently started working on the sub-continent.”
FAVOURITE ALBUM
“I always love re-listening to albums from the whole grunge/indie/dance/hip-hop scene in the early 90s - reminds me of mosh pits and the joys of adolescence.”
