note

FAVOURITE RESTAURANT AND DISH

“Today it's Tu-Lan. The vegetable summer rolls are perfect for a hot day.”

note

BEST BAR

Milano's Bar on Houston Street in New York City, Mulligan's on Poolbeg Street in Dublin, Dirty Franks on Pine Street in Philadelphia.”

VACATION CHOICE

“I moved to New York so I'd never have to go anywhere! If I had a couple days, I'd go to Paris. It answers the question why with its name.”

TOP CITY

“They are all pretty good, but New York because they are all in here.”

FAVOURITE HOTEL

“Courtyard by Marriott. I'm easy. And I have a four year old. But the The Fitzwilliam in Dublin, the Loews in Philly, and The Cosmopolitan hotel on chambers in Manhattan all have their charms.”

note

TYPE OF BAG

“Aluminum Haliburton. Makes it look like I have $100,000 in cash even if there's only a six-year-old laptop and a pb&j sandwich in there.”

FAVOURED BRAND

Polo Ralph Lauren , just 'cause.”

ESSENTIAL WARDROBE ITEM

“The Gucci belt buckle. The belt itself is long gone; I get new belts from Natural Leather. I wear the buckle upside down. Without a belt, it's all falling apart.”

note

MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN

“Besides my wife? Madonna. No, not you madge.”

note

STYLE ICON

The Prisoner. Consistency and individuality eventually yields liberty.”

note

STYLE TIP

“If you can't own it, disown it.”

TAILOR

“I know I'm asking for longer wait times on my hems and alterations, but the best, dedicated, and fairest tailors I have found in Manhattan are Stanton Tailor Shop and American Thread on West Broadway. Tell 'em Es sent you.”

note

BEST SHIRT BRAND

“I have a couple of excellent ones from El Corte Ingles in Barcelona. They are 10 years old and still look sharp. I wash and tumble dry them, and they look dry cleaner fresh.”

note

FAVOURITE SUIT

“The best suit I have is an orange sharkskin suit from Oswald Boateng. I bought it years ago for a song from Century 21. I'd like to get something bespoke from him, now that I know what I want, which would be a one-button, black sharkskin jacket and flat front pants. Red lining and red pockets in the pants, so after I've spent all my loot I can turn out my pockets and still look cool.”

note

CUT OF TROUSERS

“I'm still looking. I need a flat front, slim cut with no cuff trouser. Qualified schmattes please get in touch.”

note

JEANS BRAND

“Polo 845 white jeans.”

UNDERWEAR CHOICE

Calvin Klein Underwear boxer briefs.”

note

PREFERRED JACKET STYLE

“Anything except double breasted. I have a really nice one-button jacket made by a tailor in Detroit that was a thrift store find that really is perfect. I was wearing it on the A train platform at Canal Street when an older gentleman walked off the train and said, "Look at the way that jacket hangs unbuttoned. It's perfect." And so it is.”

SHOE MAKER

“The first shoe I bought (and I still love) was the Timberland classic lug. It's casual and classic. During Christophe Lemaire's reign at Lacoste, they made some amazing shoes. One was a really smart canvas and red leather saddle shoe that I have actually painted in several paintings. To me, it's the ultimate mod shoe. Beautiful and useful simply because its beautiful.”

note

FAVOURITE GROOMING PRODUCT

“Floss, nose hair trimmer, nail clippers. They're the three-way tie for the civilised.”

note

DREAM CAR

“Black Crown Victoria with the police kit intact.”

WATCH BRAND

“An awesome Bulova Dive watch. Fluorescent orange dial. Weighs a pound. So usually I just use my phone for a watch.”

ESSENTIAL GADGET

“This BlackBerry. God. Damn. It.”

BEST BOOK

Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky is great. Look Homeward Angel by Thomas Wolfe has the best opening scene I've ever read, and Freaky Dancin' by Bez, 'cause I'm a well-rounded maniac.”

FAVOURITE ALBUM

“Right now Kurt Vile's Smoke Ring For My Halo. It astounds. The all time for me is A Love Supreme, by John Coltrane. It's my religion.”
