Mr Porter's Glossary of Men's Style

When a filling - traditionally goose or duck down - is sandwiched between two layers of fabric to create a warm and insulating garment, usually a coat. The reason these take on a patchwork appearance is that the filling must be kept in small pockets, it would otherwise all fall to the bottom of the coat.

Quoddy

Quoddy moccasins have been handmade in Maine since 1909. Each pair is made from start to finish by a single craftsman, and the shoes are entirely hand-sewn with no adhesives, plastic mouldings or staples used; they are truly artisanal shoes. Quoddy shoes surround the foot in soft leather, which adapts to the shape of the wearer's feet for the ultimate in comfort. We like the stylish suede ankle boots, and the laced boat shoes.
