Editor's Notes

The 1950s was a richly creative period when it comes to watch design – far more than is sometimes realised. The casemaking art on display in this Vacheron Constantin 18-karat yellow gold dress watch is a perfect example: the sharp contrast in finishing techniques between the brushed flanks and back, and the thin polished bezel accentuates the crisp lines of the square case. Its most notable feature, however, has to be the pivoting lugs, which hinge at the join with the case to provide a comfortable fit on any wrist. Watches of this era are masterful tributes to refined elegance, and this carefully restored model would make a discerning choice of black tie watch nearly 70 years after its creation.

Carefully selected by the Heritage Department and restored according to the rules of the art within the Manufacture, these watches dating from the 20th century are now part of the collection: ""Les Collectionneurs"".
