Why The Time To Wear A Bracelet Is Now

Words by Mr Ashley Clarke

Plunge wrist-first into the men’s jewellery trend with these.

You may not make it your business to study which signet rings and necklaces Mr Harry Styles and his ilk decorate their persons with, or which ridiculous golden Gucci crown Mr Jared Leto wore to this year’s Met Gala (that’s our job, silly), but there’s a point to take notice of here: men’s jewellery is everywhere. It’s not just the red carpet, either. Earlier this year, it was reported that necklace sales saw a 500 per cent spike following a certain parade of Piz Buin-marinated musclemen (read: Love Island contestants) wearing them on television in the summer. Not the most sophisticated group from which to birth a fashion trend, but a stylish up-trickle of jewellery has been happening since, and the SS19 menswear shows were also full of bling (see the chunky choker chains at Dior). In other words, if you ever fancied branching out to a gold accessory or two, the time is very much now.

Still, we appreciate that entering the jewellery arena can be intimidating for the average gent – looking like Liberace’s Christmas tree or an iced-out 2 Chainz video is not the goal here – so we suggest starting with a bracelet. A small piece of finery on the wrist is a good way to add some individuality to an outfit without looking like you’re trying too hard, and considering there’s some discerning jewellery landing on MR PORTER today, the options are good and plenty. A classic, refined choice would be Miansai’s gleaming 18-karat gold cuff, which is discerningly simple and will look great peeking out from beneath a shirt cuff. Also see Shaun Leane’s sterling silver iteration, which is crafted to look like a reptilian spine. If beads are more your bag, try something from Mikia, made from labradorite (no relation to the dog breed unfortunately; think aurora borealis colouring instead), or Luis Morais’ tiger’s eye bead bracelet that’s accentuated with a small 14-karat gold blackened diamond-encrusted cross. That long-awaited jewellery collection starts now.
