In a time when a daily walk, no matter how grey the skies, has become something of an event, it was fitting that Mr Hedi Slimane’s cast for CELINE HOMME’s “The Dancing Kid” film took their stroll on a deserted racetrack. Granted, they were considerably luckier on the weather front than we seem to be right now. As the sunshine beamed and drones hovered, a succession of bold and brazenly layered looks appeared: colour-blocked windbreakers, loud cardigans, bleached jeans and track shorts were all topped with clashing beanies, bucket hats, baseball caps and helmets.

As we noted when the first drop of the collection landed at MR PORTER, the inspiration was Gen Z skate culture with a dash of eboy aesthetic. You know the one: floppy hair, baggy hoodies, silver chains, painted nails. The whole lineup is a salute to style’s newest authorities – TikTok stars – and the adolescents around the world who’ve kept themselves (and us all) entertained posting snappy videos during the pandemic. It’s an ode to those who are using time in lockdown to recognise that creativity, in all forms, is a powerful constant.

Not one for a dance challenge? That’s not a problem: as the next crop of the new collection arrives on our shelves, you can at least look the part. Here are 10 of our favourite pieces from the line.

“To achieve the nonchalance which is absolutely necessary for a man, one article at least must not match,” proclaimed Sir Hardy Amies. Focus on the words “at least” in that sentence because CELINE HOMME is presenting new rules – one of them being that leopard-print goes with anything and everything. Florals? Yes. Stripes? Yes. Camo? Yes. You get the idea...

Fans of Mr Hedi Slimane will know that he’s well-versed in the art of designing the perfect jacket. This one is cut from a leather so supple that it’ll start looking and feeling even better the more you wear it. The gold palm trees and lettering shone with rays (and/or filters) out on the lanes, where it was worn without a shirt underneath. That part is optional.

Heard of dopamine dressing? Well, if you’ve yet to have your fill of sweats (or logos) yet, this eye-hogging fuchsia hoodie could be just the thing to boost your mood – or at least liven up your next Zoom gathering.

A love letter to young ’uns wouldn’t be complete with some seriously stand-out sneakers, would it? These high-tops pop in a 1980s colour combo have padded collars that, thankfully, tick the necessary comfort box, too. Speaking of boxes, keep them in theirs between wears to ensure they stay in good nick.

We’ve spent a good deal of time praising leopard-print, but we’re not one to discriminate between our four-legged friends: enter zebra stripes (stay with us). They’re perhaps a little bit more rebellious than their spotted cousin, and call out to be worn with any ripped, frayed or baggy denim you own.

It’s hardly a secret that penny loafers are essential to every man’s wardrobe, so we’ll just leave you with this tidbit: keep your hems cropped and wear CELINE HOMME’s with socks. Our advice? Opt for a sporty pair while you’re at it.

What’s so different about these black trousers, you ask? Well, sticking to the theme of the collection, they borrow their shape from styles worn by skaters yet they’re still super smart and refined. The weight of the wool and mohair fabric ensures a neat drape right down to the clean break, too. Treat them well and you’ll never need another pair.

Unlike previous CELINE HOMME shows, not every model was wearing a pair of sunglasses, but there was still a decent tally. Perfect for disguising the aftermath of a late night – or, more likely right now, too much time staring at screens – this black pair has squared frames that’ll carve out some definition and dark lenses to shield yourself from the cruel, cruel world.

If you’re on the fence about belt bags, get off it. Blocked in moto colours, CELINE HOMME’s is nice and light when it’s strapped around your shoulder and comes with a nifty bonus: you can unclip the silver chain and attach it to your belt loops – or keys or, really, anything you can clip things to. Handy, huh?

Vintage jeans are great, but finding a pair that fits well, in the right wash, without too many signs of destruction is no easy feat – trust us, we’ve tried. A nod to the 1990s, these ones look the part and feel like an old favourite from day dot. Plus, the tightly woven selvedge denim holds the promise of superior durability if you don’t over-wash.
