How To Look After Your Suit
Thom Sweeney's Mr Luke Sweeney on how to keep your finest tailoring in the finest condition
Your suit is one of your biggest sartorial investments, and should provide you with many years of enjoyment – assuming that A) you remain able to fit into it, and B) you take good care of it. While we can’t offer you much help with the former – save for pointing you in the direction of a good selection of sportswear – we do know a man more than qualified to advise on the latter.
Meet Mr Luke Sweeney, one half of the London-based contemporary tailors, Thom Sweeney. After cutting his teeth on Savile Row at the heart of the British tailoring establishment, he moved to the rakish East End tailoring house, Timothy Everest, where he met his future business partner and fellow Savile Row alumnus, Mr Thom Whiddett.
The two went it alone in 2007, and seven years on they now boast an impressive roster of celebrity clients – including Mr David Beckham, who wore a bespoke Thom Sweeney suit while piloting a speedboat down the Thames during the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. The brand also offers a range of ready-to-wear suits, which are exclusively available on MR PORTER.
It goes without saying that when it comes to suits, Mr Sweeney is a man whose opinion you can trust. In our exclusive video, he offers up the five fundamentals to keeping your suit in the best possible condition.
