Men's hair is ever so attention-seeking these days. As the lust for the sepia-toned and high-waisted days of yore continues with gusto in the artistic enclaves of some of the world's more cosmopolitan cities, more and more men are opting for cuts that require serious time and attention.
From an immaculate short back and sides to a perfectly proportioned buzzcut, old-fashioned, masculine hairstyles are currently enjoying a prolonged moment of favour and Mr Matt Mulhall - a very successful session stylist whose talents are called on each season to create the hairstyles at some of the biggest fashion shows - is one of the best in the business for creating them.
These days most men seem to be favouring the same style of cut. It's really interesting how a certain look has become so popular, despite the maintenance involved in having it
"A man's hair has become another opportunity for him to show his sartorial edge," explains Mr Mulhall as he carefully trims the back of artist Mr Luke Waller's jet-black hair. "You walk down a street these days and most men seem to be favouring the same style of cut. It's really interesting how a certain look has become so popular, despite the maintenance involved in having it," he adds. And even though most men prefer to downplay the time and attention they spend on their hair, you only have to reach a wary hand over and attempt to ruffle it to witness the level of importance they place on its preservation. Above, Mr Mulhall shows us the four styles he currently favours, and explains how best to maintain them below (secretly, of course).
