Words by Mr Donnie Little

A very astute, albeit rather enigmatic (ie, anon) fellow once said that, "Life may begin at 30, but it doesn't get real interesting until about 150." He was referring, we believe, to speed reached rather than years spent and quite frankly, we couldn't agree more. Ever since the first gas-engined motorcycle was invented in 1885, man has had an ongoing love affair with his two-wheeled hustle machine. On screen or in the street, they have become synonymous with danger, rebellion and unadulterated masculinity. One man particularly known for his motorcycling enthusiasm was none other than Mr Steve McQueen. "A lot of people go through life doing things badly," he said. "Racing is important to men who do it well. When you're racing it is life. Anything before or after is just waiting." Here, we look at the motorcycles that have, either through groundbreaking design or historical events, become as iconic as some of the men who rode them.
