How time flies: this month Instagram celebrates its third birthday, but it seems like just yesterday we tentatively uploaded our first snap of latte art onto the photo-sharing app, which has since seen more than 150 million people share more than 16 billion photos. In April last year Facebook acquired Instagram for around $1bn, netting CEO and co-founder Mr Kevin Systrom an estimated $400m, but the service has retained its status as one of the more engaging and creative social media networks. Quite frankly it's hard to imagine life without Instagram, whether it's browsing the photos and short videos posted by our friends (as well as by public figures and companies we admire) during our coffee breaks, or uploading our own holiday snaps to make our co-workers jealous.

Instagram has had an undeniable influence on fashion too, now that it's the main social media tool used by journalists and editors for reporting live from fashion weeks around the world (the video functionality, which was added in June this year, was almost perfectly designed for capturing the finale of a runway show), while it is also the platform on which we conduct our biannual Global Style Campaign. From the giant arrangement of fruit on the runway at last season's Kenzo menswear show, to the walls of flowers at Mr Raf Simons' debut Dior show, ensuring that the surroundings as well as the clothes are "instagrammable" has become highly important for anyone arranging a fashion event these days.

The real appeal of Instagram, though, lies in the windows it gives you into other people's worlds, whether you're interested in fashion, travel, food, fitness, photography... or cats posing with piles of cash (@cashcats). We're always on the lookout for new and interesting people to follow, and things move so fast it's nigh impossible to make a comprehensive list of who's who on Instagram, but in the gallery, above, we have selected 10 users whose feeds we are particularly enjoying right now.
