Born in Hong Kong, but educated in Britain, Mr André Fu has an aesthetic that combines the warm sensuality of Asian styles with the cool rigour of Western minimalism. His firm, AFSO, has attracted a stellar list of clients, particularly in the hotel industry, and previous projects include Hong Kong's The Upper House and recently a vast suite in London's The Berkeley hotel. He's currently working on the Rosewood Tanah Lot hotel in Bali, and the Gong Bar on the 52nd floor of London's Shard building.
His enviable studio is located in Hong Kong's frenetic Central district, "the heart of Hong Kong's commercial activities and high-end retail", according to Mr Fu, and its sophisticated simplicity showcases his ability to create wonderfully calm spaces in the midst of some of the world's busiest cities. It also acts as a showcase for his burgeoning art collection, highlights of which include a sculpture by the British artist Mr Antony Gormley, and one by the late Mr François-Xavier Lalanne and his wife Ms Claude Lalanne, the French husband-and-wife team known as Les Lalanne.
