Denim has come a long way since it was first adopted by 19th-century prospectors in California, and, deployed in the right way, it has a place in all but the most formal outfits. Once exotically known as Serge de Nîmes, after the small southern French city where it originally came from, it's now hard to imagine a world without denim. Of course we wouldn't actually want to, because this hard-wearing fabric provides many of the foundations of the modern wardrobe. This instalment of Double Take explores the versatility of the world's favourite twill cotton fabric.
