THE JOURNAL

The thing about designing your own label is that you get to call all the shots. Mr P. is, in essence, our opportunity to make all the clothes we wish were hanging in our wardrobes. Which, as it gets chillier, means we have packed our latest outing with a selection of the cosiest garments we could dream up.
This time around, we’ve also introduced a smattering of luxury pieces to the line – think classic items that never date, sourced from some of the world’s most accomplished artisans and crafted using truly top-notch materials and fabrics. These are just five of our latest additions. Ready, set, wrap up warm.
01. The merino wool polo shirt
T-shirt a touch too sloppy? Collared shirt a bit much? Enter the polo shirt, solving smart-casual dressing conundrums since 1896. A long-sleeved variety such as this one is particularly useful in these situations. It’s also knitted from fine merino wool, a bonus in colder conditions since it’s lighter than standard yarns, but just as toasty. The grid texture adds some mid-century vibes, which is always a big plus in our books.
02. The cap-toe Derbies
If you’ve perused our article laying out everything you need to know about dress shoes, then you’ll be well aware that Goodyear welting is the standard to aim for in shoemaking. This time-honoured technique means your treads can be resoled indefinitely. And, since we’re an eager-to-please bunch, that’s just what we’ve done here. Handmade in Northampton, these slick calfskin Derby shoes are what you might classify a “for ever piece”, a timeless perennial that will have pride of place in your wardrobe for decades to come.
03. The fuzzy sweater
It’s difficult to pin down the internet on what precisely the colour yellow symbolises – sources variously asign it qualities ranging from optimism to intellect. Sunny disposition aside, investing in this checked fuzzy sweater is certainly a wise decision – made in Italy from a snug mix of merino wool, alpaca and mohair it’ll brighten up the sombrest of winter wardrobes.
04. The cashmere corduroy trousers
It has recently been brought to our attention that denim, though regularly considered a wardrobe catch-all, isn’t that useful in the colder months. While wonderfully hard-wearing, it isn’t particularly adept at retaining heat. We suggest switching out your trusty jeans for something a tad warmer as the temperatures begin to dip. And what could be cosier than corduroy? We’ll tell you: corduroy trousers made with cashmere (holy moly), such as these, which are crafted from fabric sourced from Italy.
05. The sweeping shearling coat
Menswear has been bending its once staid rules of late, but venturing outside swaddled in a high-tog duvet – your puffiest jacket notwithstanding – will still attract a few quizzical stares. This shearling coat goes one better and is just the ticket when it gets properly glacial out there. And because this specimen is crafted from thick Napa lambskin in Florence and hand-brushed for singular fluffiness, there’s a solid chance you’ll want to sleep in it, too.
