Fresh picks for the new season.

Sometimes, when we are sifting feverishly through the What’s New upload looking for our favourite items, we are rather spoilt for choice, and trying to decide which bits to highlight for our readers (and which to add to our own Wish Lists) can be rather tricky. In other cases, a theme or trend leaps out at us immediately, and our hands are forced. This week is one such instance. On scanning the new items available on site today, we were met by an overwhelming sea of blue. We were also met with a lot of clothing tailor-made for hot weather, warm sand, and cool sea. There is nothing quite like slipping on some slides on a summer holiday. It irrefutably says: “Today, I will be doing absolutely nothing other than being in some water, or being next to some water”. It says: “This is a day where no decisions need to be made. Not even whether one should do up one’s laces or not.” There is nothing quite like a canny investment, either. OK – spending £435 on some sliders may not scream “savvy buy”. But if you think these were made only for the pool and the beach then you’re very much mistaken. It is 2018 – we are in the throes of logomania, and men can get away with wearing just about anything. We should know. We’ve seen our fair share of slides in the MR PORTER office.

Nothing says summer like a crisp new pair of shorts, and when the weather is balmy enough that you can bare your sun-starved calves to the daylight, it’s worth doing so in style. These stretch-cotton twill shorts from NN07 are a vivid shade of cobalt blue, which we think will work particularly well with a decent white T-shirt – try this lightweight one from Simon Miller, and you’ll look primed for the beach.

There has been a veritable proliferation of camp-collar shirts on site recently, but this one from Gitman Vintage caught our eye because of its arresting print. Depicting Mount Fuji in the traditional Japanese style of woodblock printing, it’s artfully graphic, and is cut from an airy cotton poplin, making it the perfect option for a holiday shirt without looking too touristy. To complement the print, team it with something neutral, like these versatile fisherman-style chinos from Officine Generale.
