The Best Dressed Men Of The Month

4 April 2018

From Mr Jon Hamm to Mr LeBron James, the players who held court in March.

Sorry, we’re slightly confused, it feels like we just reached the end of March, but surely that can’t be, because, at the time and place of writing it’s four degrees outside. Last week it was snowing. Our  team just recently squelched their way through a blizzard. What’s going on? Of course, if it’s been tough for us, imagine the quandaries such atmospheric anomalies present for the  set. Having perfected their , they must be slightly frustrated at the fact that spring/summer does not, in fact, seem to be happening. Still, as ever, they managed to grin and bear it. Here’s how these brave souls wore their  ensembles this month.

You will probably recognise Mr Heaton from his star turn in cult Netflix TV series . That show, of course, was a love letter to the , while this outfit, with its unusual colour palette of tonal brown and blue-grey is more inspired by the . Kudos to Mr Heaton for versatility. And for finding the perfectly hued painting to stand in front of to complete the look.

People get angry on social media when we at MR PORTER raise the question of . We can only imagine, then, the fury that will be stoked by this image of , who here has combined not just any , but a shawl-collared  with a pair of . In our humble opinion, it’s a modern twist on the dazzling black-white colour scheme of , and works very well indeed. But we can’t stop anyone disagreeing on , really, can we.

A giant , a lovely  and a movie-star wife by your side. Ah, such are the components of the good life as lived by musician and former Klaxon Mr James Righton, who here sports a look that is both nostalgic – thanks to the shearling and  – and rather sharp – see the flash of cobalt and  underneath. Granted, given that both he and Ms Keira Knightley (just out of shot) opted for  coats on this occasion, they’re unlikely to fit into an elevator together. But at this level of celebrity, you have people to carry you up the stairs, surely?

What a fantastic combination of a  and a . It’s a bit country and a bit rock ‘n’ roll, especially with the cropped  length and neat . An outfit that is good enough, even, to transcend the rather unpleasant, toothpaste-and-turf backdrop upon which it is presented. We’re making a note of it.

Is it news, exactly, that  looks good in a suit? No, we’ve seen the Mad Men star pull this kind of thing off hundreds of times in the past decade. Does that lessen its effect? Not really. We like how austere this particular two-piece is – nothing fancy, or colourful, just a good, classic fit. It’s so restrained, in fact, that you almost don’t notice the fun touches – retro , , tasselled . All rather effortless, really – as you would hope from someone who’s had a lot of opportunities to practice this sort of thing.

Mr LeBron James

It can’t be all that straightforward getting dressed when you’re 6ft 6in. Yet Mr LeBron James makes it look easy in this casual, yet assured ensemble. We like the very-much on-trend shearling , and we like the way that, despite being 6ft 6in, he’s managed to find a pair of tapered trousers that are cropped to the perfect ankle-skimming length. But our favourite thing about this is the colour palette – neutral from head to toe with a flash of deep green in both the  and  laces. It’s subtle, Mr James, but yes, we noticed.

Mr Ryan Reynolds

This is a very unfussy way to wear a suit: the fabric and palette are timeless, yet the cut is just slim enough to feel very contemporary. The  make it all a little bit more fun, which is very much the sort of thing you might expect the wise-cracking Mr Reynolds to do with a suit. More power to him, we say.

It’s always a dilemma with a or ? The former can look a bit stuffy, the latter can look a bit informal. Yet here Ready Player One star Mr Tye Sheridan has gone for brown, with a midnight-blue suit and  and it all works rather well, even against the horrible purple colour of everything around him. Game on, Mr Sheridan.
