THE JOURNAL

Be ready for anything with the latest all-weather coats, jackets and outerwear from the leading technical gear brand.
Going by the meteorological rather than the astrological calendar, spring officially began weeks ago on 1 March. But we have been feeling the re-energising effects of brighter, longer days for what feels like longer even than that. Perhaps we have global warming to thank. Whatever it is, the gloom of January is now a distant memory. This means we have been getting out more, leaving the city and enjoying the fresh air and adventure that comes from spending time in the mountains, countryside and on coastal pathways. Anywhere but the MR PORTER HQ in London, basically.
Although we were championing the improved conditions just now, the one thing we can be certain of when spring arrives in the UK is the uncertainty of the weather. Even the warmest spring day can turn into a light shower (or worse). So, it seems just the right time to introduce the new Canada Goose spring collection at MR PORTER. The range comprises coats for every eventuality (where the weather is concerned, at least) and nifty, stylish layers to go beneath them, too. Whether you are fighting rain, wind or the icy cold, or if you need a light knit for when the weather changes (or you’ve built up a sweat), the new Canada Goose range has got you, very literally, covered.

Crew Dura Force Light shell hooded trench

The Crew Dura Force Light shell hooded trench is purpose-built for wind, offering superior protection in unpredictable conditions. Plackets over the front zippers and storm flaps underneath help keep the elements out. It is also easy to wear, lightweight and unlined, which will keep you cool should the weather improve. Mesh venting underneath the back panel adds to the breathability. Alternatively, you may need to layer up, so try the lightweight down jacket in the collection or go for separates, such as a J.Crew rollneck or a brushed cotton Faherty overshirt, as pictured above.

Cabri Hooded Jacket

If you need a little more comfort and cushion with your outerwear, then get down with the Cabri hooded jacket. This is designed to provide lightweight warmth in changeable weather conditions. It’s perfect for wearing under a bigger coat, or as outerwear with layers underneath. Indeed, if all that insulation is proving too effective (even the hood is lined with down) you can simply pack it up into the interior zipper pocket and carry it using the loop provided, perhaps by clipping it onto a waistband or belt. Efficient and practical.

Seawolf Tri-Durance Shell Hooded Jacket

Wind is one thing, but what about the driving rain? Step forward the Seawolf Tri-Durance shell hooded jacket. It’s made from a three-layer waterproof fabric, which provides ample protection from heavy showers. A fixed hood and a fully seam-sealed construction completes the job. But, again, just because it’s raining it doesn’t mean you won’t get warm later and start to heat up. This is where the mesh venting at the upper back comes into play. And if you would like to employ some savvy layering beneath to adapt to whatever weather you find yourself, then the Dunham jacket should easily do the trick.

Field Poncho

The Field Poncho will also keep the rain off. This is perfect if you’re walking and need to quickly pull on a layer that will keep you entirely dry. As you can imagine, it is extremely lightweight and cut in a way that allows for more movement than heavy-duty outerwear. Depending on your environment, you will almost certainly need to take some extra clothing with you, so don’t forget to pack another item for insulation such as the brand’s Faber Bomber, for example, or a simple grey sweater, as shown above.
