The things we’re asking Santa Claus very nicely for this year.

You can learn a lot about the MR PORTER team from what we want for Christmas. We probably have a caffeine problem, judging by all the tea and coffee sets; we’re homebodies at heart from the candles, robes and bath salts; but we do like the odd tipple as long as it’s served in a proper glass, ideally cut, undoubtedly crystal. As for the Gucci watches, Thom Browne wallets and Prada backpacks, did we mention we work in fashion? And the Mr David Bowie print… well, we all have our style heroes. Read on to find out what the other half of our team want to find under the tree this Christmas.

I need a strong drink to get through the ordeal of Christmas and this Linley shot glass and cooler set sets the tone perfectly. On Christmas Eve, our family tradition is to wolf down caviar blinis and ice-cold vodka: it makes a light but delicious precursor to the calorie-heavy excess that Christmas day serves up. In my stocking, I’d be very grateful to find this travel manicure set. It’s small, cabin-bag friendly and yet has all you need. Having seen my luggage go astray on a flight to Majorca last summer, I now try and check in my luggage as little as possible. It’s been a little while since I last used a backpack as my daily work bag, but I’ve been obsessing over this Prada one recently. The durable nylon makes it super-functional and the touch of chrome hardware makes it interesting but not ostentatious. I’m also very keen on these Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses and Valextra cardholder – perhaps so that I can jet off to warmer climes at the drop of a hat, sunglasses, credit card and a few nights worth of clothes bundled in my backpack (although more of a dream than reality I suspect, sadly).

As I’m always late for meetings, appointments (and sometimes deadlines), I’d love to get my hands on this jazzy Gucci timepiece: gold PVD-coated, it has an emerald-coloured face that’s embellished with a bumblebee index at 12 o’clock. It also comes in red, so I’m thinking of asking for it in both colours. And if this is not enough indulgence, I’m going to also request this Japanese bath set – I can’t wait to soak in a hot bath infused with one of the naturally fragranced soaks (you can choose from green tea, yuzu and cypress) by Japan Best, one of the oldest soap companies in the country, and one that still uses traditional carved wood moulds. While I’m on my relaxation and grooming routine, I’m addicted to Le Labo’s beard oil. Not only does it condition and tame my wild, unruly beard, it also works really well as a face moisturiser. A little goes a long way, so use sparingly.

Time is a precious commodity, and Christmas time especially so. And if someone was to gift me this TAG Heuer Carrera to mark the occasion, I wouldn’t say no. In fact, I would learn to appreciate every second from this one onwards that little bit more. Time to put my feet up (please) and savour a coffee from this copper kettle, drip and pot set by Toast Living. And take a moment, turn myself to face this framed print of (a Mr Terry O’Neill portrait of) the late, great Mr David Bowie and reflect on the ch-ch-changes to come.

Hygge may be over as a trend, but its legacy lives on (we just don’t talk about it). These Oliver Spencer sweatpants are ideal for long slouchy Christmas evenings in front of the fire. They are not only extremely forgiving thanks to the drawstring waist, but should I need to venture outside to pick up some more red wine, they won’t get any sideways glances at the checkout. Now back to the sofa. There’s nothing I want more than this Soho Home cashmere blanket to keep me snug as I nap through the cold snap. And what could up the ante more in terms of cosiness than this feu de bois candle, with its notes of incense and wood smoke. Weighing in at a hefty 1.5kg and encased in an enameled sandstone pot, I’ll be keeping this lit throughout the holidays and beyond.

Terrace scarves made an unlikely appearance on site this winter, but being a football fan, I’m very happy they did. They can inject a bit of colour over a bomber jacket or keep an outfit interesting when loosely draped over an overcoat. I’m also a tactile guy, so offering up free hugs with this emoji-emblazoned Vetements x Reebok scarf around my neck should make for a cuddly Christmas. Being a creature of habit, the morning coffee plays a large part in my daily ritual. This copper-plated coffeemaker from design guru Tom Dixon will not only look the part in my kitchen, but I’m reliably informed it makes a cracking brew. I’m not much of a wallet man. There’s too much temptation to fill it with receipts and old gym memberships I don’t use, so I always have a couple of cardholders on rotation for different occasions. This Thom Browne one in navy is the perfect daytime solution and will ensure I don’t get any unsightly lumps and bumps in my jacket pocket.

When I was a child, I wanted to be an astronaut. And although that childhood dream never came true, my fascination with space travel and the stars never left me, which is why this astronomy set is on my Wish List.
