7 Refined Linen Pieces That Will Carry You Through Summer
Words by Emma Pradella
25 June 2024

If there’s anything truly deserving of the term “essential” come summer, a set of well made, versatile linen pieces would surely be it. Thanks to its lightness and breathability, the fabric is something of a summer saviour. Its fluid and relaxed handle lends itself well to both casual staples and smarter silhouettes, giving any look a naturally cool – both literally and metaphorically – feel. If you ask us, one can never have too much linen. Meaning there’s always room for these seven must-haves, below.

01. The Brunello Cucinelli suit
If “start as you mean to go on” is anything to go by this summer, we’ll introduce you to Brunello Cucinelli’s impeccably tailored suit. Whether you have a wedding or just an al fresco dinner coming up, the subtle herringbone motif, 1980s-inspired lapels and matching burnished metal buttons are sure to make all the right impressions.

02. The ZEGNA shirt
Few things are as worthy an investment as a timeless, endlessly wearable white shirt, particularly if it’s made by ZEGNA. It’s part of the Italian luxury brand’s Oasi Lino collection, which flies the flag for the label’s commitment to traceability and responsible sourcing of fabrics and raw materials.

03. The Orlebar Brown shorts
If you’ve asked yourself if short shorts can ever be smart, look no further than Orlebar Brown’s green pair for a positive answer. Plus, if you think of summer like a state of mind, rather than a season – much like brand founder Mr Adam Brown does – then you can wear them pretty much anywhere.

04. The Officine Générale T-shirt
We’d usually advise against wearing long sleeves in the heat, but if the T-shirt in question is light and breathable enough, it may just become your go-to this summer – and keep your arms out of the sun. Officine Générale’s style is the case in point. Style it with a pair of the brand’s shorts.

05. The Mr P. overshirt
We can spend hours debating whether it should fall within the shirt, jacket or the so-called “shacket” category. But the only thing that matters is that this light, versatile and fit-for-anywhere Mr P. staple – part of our Consciously Crafted edit – is sure to become the foundation of your summer wardrobe. Wear it with colour, to complete an all-white look, or as a point of light against darker layers.

06. The ZEGNA T-shirt
Every piece in ZEGNA’s collections is designed with the brand’s dedication to environmental responsibility in mind, particularly when it comes to picking high-quality materials and sourcing local production and manufacturers. This T-shirt, for instance, is appliquéd with its 232 Road Brand Mark – a visual representation of the 232 Road, first paved in the 1930s by the label’s founder to connect Oasi Zegna to local communities.
