Meet The Style Council: The Italians

Words by The Daily Team

19 June 2017

The insider tips from three of our Italy-based Style Council Members: Messrs Bradley Cocks, Alessandro Squarzi and Robert Rabensteiner.

At MR PORTER, Italy is never very far from our thoughts. The boot-shaped country is home to some of the world’s finest manufacturers, best tailors and, importantly, most delicious food – three factors which we are duly reminded of twice a year as we head to the menswear shows in Milan. As we round off the latest batch of these runway occurrences (the presentations for the SS18 season in Milan concludes tomorrow), we thought it worth highlighting the Style Council Members who currently call Italy home. If you want to do Italy (or indeed, the rest of the world) in style, you could do far worse than look to these fine men for recommendations.

MR BRADLEY COCKS

Mr Bradley Cocks currently lives in Rome, though it’s certainly not the only place he’s settled. Born in Canada, he moved to Australia to found the luxury hotel booking service Kiwi Collection, where he met his wife, the fashion designer Ms Collette Dinnigan. Now working as a marketing consultant and strategist for the hospitality industries via his company Goodtrip Pty Ltd, he has clearly managed to establish a foothold in Italy, as is evident from his excellent recommendations when it comes to the country’s hotel and restaurants. MR ALESSANDRO SQUARZI

Such is the street-style pre-eminence of this Milanese gentleman, he barely needs an introduction. In fact, it feels like not a week goes by at MR PORTER HQ without us admiring some startling but effortlessly relaxed outfit the sprezzatura kingpin has thrown together as he walks the streets of his home city. But if you’re not already familiar with Mr Squarzi, let it be known that he is a fashion consultant who runs designer showrooms across Italy, and that he is perhaps the world’s leading expert on wearing multiple layers in hot summer weather. He’s also a man of the world, as is evident from his Style Council recommendations, which range from a hotel bar in Paris to New York’s best neighbourhood Italian restaurant. MR ROBERT RABENSTEINER

As a former fashion editor of L’Uomo VogueMr Robert Rabensteiner has had an enduring influence on the world of men’s style, working with photographers and artists such as Messrs Peter Lindbergh, Francesco Vezzoli and Jamie Hawkesworth to create some truly spectacular editorials. Today, he continues to work as a contributing editor for Condé Nast in Italy, and shoots for magazines including Purple, Man Of The World and GQ Italia. And he’s not too shabby a dresser, either – in fact, his eye for detail is apparent in his out-of-office looks as it is in the glossy spreads of his magazine work. In his Style Council recommendations, he travels far and wide across his home country, pointing out classic bars such as Harry’s Bar in Venice alongside one of the smallest no-reservations restaurants in Milan and Porto Ercole’s superlative hotel Il Pellicano.
