THE JOURNAL

What to wear when it’s hot by day but there’s still a nip in the air at night.
Summer proper has finally arrived at MR PORTER HQ in London. Temperatures are soaring, legs and ankles are being bared, whether welcome or not (read our piece on shorts in the office here), and we have a daily ice-cream run at 3.00pm each day – no summer-body fear here. But that doesn’t mean it’s all swim shorts and T-shirts for us. Oh no. If you, too, live in country with unpredictable weather, you’ll know it pays to be prepared. Thankfully, with the fashion world always looking ahead, there’s knitwear galore among our What’s New uploads at the moment. But if the thought of wool makes you break out in a sweat right now, opt for a sweatshirt or hoodie from Maison Margiela, Lanvin, Polo Ralph Lauren or Neil Barrett instead. All crafted from breathable cotton or cotton-jersey blends – and all in moodier tones that give some respite from the usual cheery pastels – they’ll come handy in the coming weeks because, as the sun sets on your rooftop cinema screening or alfresco beach party, it can feel a little chilly. Throw on one of the pieces below to give your outfit and edge – and keep you nice and warm.
