Five Ways To Make Cashmere Your Everyday Luxury This Winter
Words by Ms Molly Isabella Smith
26 January 2021

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why we’re stocking the MR PORTER shelves with cashmere like it’s going out of style (which, by the way, it is absolutely not). It’s extremely cold and we could all do with a little extra padding. Sure, there are plenty of other options in the wool department, but there’s something especially indulgent about the cashmere fibre – which is finer, softer and altogether more snug than its sheep-sourced counterpart. Read on for five pieces to treat yourself to now.

01.
The sweatpants
For the time being at least, 2021 is shaping up to be just as sweatpants-centric as last year. And, given the usage your favourite pair has already seen, chances are you’re probably in need of an upgrade right about now. This pair from super-luxe brand The Row certainly qualify as an “upgrade” – but we’ll be damned if they aren’t some of the softest, most comfortable we’ve come across.

02.
The blazer
Sure, sweatpants are great, but there are moments of WFH life that require something a little smarter. That unexpected early-morning Zoom call with your boss comes to mind. By all means, panic away, but also grab a smart-but-exceedingly-comfortable blazer such as Kingsman’s while you’re at it, so you can look presentable from the waist up.

03.
The beanie
We don’t need to tell you that you lose most of your body heat through your head. But we’ve just gone ahead and done it anyway. Regardless, the point bears repeating during the winter months – at which point a warm beanie, such as TOM FORD’s overwhelmingly sophisticated style, is a prerequisite if you’re planning on going outside at any point.

04.
The blanket
Haven’t you heard? Blankets are the new bags. Like Linus from Peanuts, we’ve taken to toting ours around everywhere with us for security: draping it around our shoulders like a cape while groggily making our morning coffee, clandestinely slinging it over our laps during virtual meetings and doubling as a scarf if/when we muster the energy to leave the house.

05.
The sweater
Cashmere sweaters usually come in a neutral palette of colours with names such as oatmeal, ecru and taupe – tasteful yet unadventurous shades that reflect the fibre’s status as a classic. The Elder Statesman, a specialist in the fabric, doesn’t really abide by those rules, instead serving up a bold selection of fluoro, acid, pastel and tie-dye knits. This cheerful pullover, for example, could not possibly fail to brighten anyone’s winter’s day.
