Staff Picks: Five Things We Want This Week

During the colder months, I tend to hibernate in darker colours (mainly black, perhaps it’s because I’m mourning the loss of the sun on my back). But now that spring is here – or is it? I say this while looking at grey skies – it’s time to update my wardrobe with something a little lighter and a little brighter, especially for all of those (dreaded) family engagement parties and weddings that the warmer months inevitably bring. Formal occasions aside, there are holidays to consider, too. Here’s what’s on my Wish List this week.

The suit jacket

I believe that nothing is too expensive if you get enough pleasure out of it. Much like this jacket. Sure, it’s a little costly, but it’s unstructured, breathable and made with striped linen by Spanish label MAN 1924 – so will serve me well for all of summer’s more formal occasions, and beyond.

The bag

But what to carry it in? This smart Bennett Winch suit carrier, which is crafted from leather and nylon, and comes ready-wrapped around this holdall. It’ll help keep my tailoring pristine, as it should be. After all, there is nothing more unflattering than turning up at a wedding in a crumpled suit.

The swimwear

Fortune favours the bold, and this summer, I’ll be chopping an inch or two off the length of my swim shorts. Showing skin has never been so acceptable, after all. For my holiday to Miami, I’ll be taking the plunge in this pair by Loro Piana in mellow yellow – a shade that will only look better as my tan deepens. All I need to do now is work on my quads…

The watch

Most of my weddings this summer are solo engagements, but how’s this for some enviable arm candy? Cartier is well-known for its timeless design and its latest Ballon Bleu is no exception.

The camp-collar shirt

Printed lightweight shirts, worn under blazers, are becoming more common place at formal parties in the summer. I’ve got my eye on this one from Officine Generale, especially as it will work as part of my holiday wardrobe, too.
