May is the best time of year to splash out on the finishing touches to my summer wardrobe. The sun is out, and so are all the best pieces, so you have to be quick. It’s all about the final, and fun, flourishes to make the most of those warmer months.

Starting from the ground up, this year’s sandals will be from sustainable stalwarts, Malibu. A classic style, firmly updated, and the chunky soles mean they work with both shorts and turned-up jeans (socks optional).

Both Loewe and bucket hats are certainly having their moment in the sun, and this one from the brand’s Paula Ibiza collection is a winner on so many levels. Plus, you’ll never get lost on the beach.

A summer suit is essential for all of those weddings and work functions. Brand new to MR PORTER is Gabriela Hearst, a brand that presents new level in luxury. I’ll be dressing this down with a pale, pastel tee and crisp, white sneakers.

For those cooler evenings, an extra throw-on layer is essential and this oversized rugby from our own label, Mr P., is all you’ll need. Premium jersey and pop stripes mean this will be a piece that will always look cool and get better with age.
