My number one essential for Memorial Day Weekend is a light jacket for cool nights and breezy shores. It’s the perfect jacket to throw on throughout the weekend, wherever the evening takes you.

An amazing pair of swim shorts are essential for the (un)official start to the American summer. This pair of Dries Van Noten trunks are exclusive to MR PORTER and tick all the boxes. The most important aspect of trunks is length, and these score a happy medium between short and long. The collage print – which represents a mood board for the whole collection – means that these the trunks are also unmistakably Dries and super stylish.

If you know me, you know I am in love with everything Bottega Veneta is producing under the direction of Mr Daniel Lee, and this brown sandal is no exception. It’s suitable for the beach and pool days but refined enough for the nights out on the town, if you manage to squeeze all of the above into your Memorial Day Weekend social diary.

As the small rectangular frame of past seasons has given way to a more oversized square profile in eyewear, the message on sunglasses this summer is to go big. This pair by Gucci (another MR PORTER exclusive) does exactly that. I love the sense of 1970s nostalgia these shades give off.
