THE JOURNAL

How to jazz up your style with a bold print this season.
The relentless freezing drizzle we’re currently besieged by at MR PORTER HQ has us positively pining for the end of winter, and while we’re still enjoying being swaddled in hibernation-appropriate knitwear and waterproof shell jackets, before we know it a time will come where we want to wear something a bit… snazzier. Yes, “snazzy” is the kind of thing your uncool uncle might call a shirt like the ones you’ll find below, but there’s really no better term for them. Invariably colourful, often camp-collared, and bringing a much-needed injection of wearable fun into our post-winter wardrobes, the party shirt of spring represents a loudness that we’re happy to hear. Scroll down for three of our favourites, new to MR PORTER this week.
SPRINGTIME SENSUALITY
This matte-satin shirt is from New York-based brand You As, which is new to MR PORTER today. The label’s SS18 collection is inspired by the type of well-groomed guys who frequented the Las Vegas strip in the 1960s, and the deep pink and rich orange of the shirt evoke flowers that grow in Nevada’s Mojave Desert. It’s airy, tactile, and offers some casino-ready suave. The subtle colours will look great with a glint of jewellery on the wrist or neck, and for the rest of your look you can opt for a pair of dark jeans. If you’re not a gambling man, these black skinny ones from Saint Laurent are a safe bet.
JUNGLE PARTY
Go for a party shirt, but make it Dolce! The Italian duo is known for its ostentatious design work, and this silk shirt is quintessential Dolce & Gabbana. The phantasmagoric print features a mixture of jungle motifs, flowers, sunshine and playing cards that are signature among the brand’s SS18 collection. It’s a lot to take in, sure, but if you play the rest of your outfit right, even a shirt as wild as this is easy to pull off. Try a minimal pair of white sneakers, like these chunky leather ones from Alexander McQueen, to strike the perfect balance.
SHATTERED IN STYLE
Theory’s crisp white “Daze” shirt is made with cotton-poplin and printed with a “geoline” mosaic pattern that hits that rare but wholly satisfying mark between retro and contemporary. Bring out the blue in the graphic pattern on the shirt with this navy suede bomber jacket from Ami, which will also lock the cold out when the spring sunshine is lacking.
