Three Ways To Wear Cashmere This Winter

The sweater, sweats and scarf to keep you cosy this season.

Here at MR PORTER, we’re forever extolling cashmere for its virtues, but what can we say? Its virtues are worth extolling. Whether it’s a coatscarf or sweater, a decent bit of cashmere can be one of the longest wearing things in your wardrobe (that’s “investment piece” in fashion speak). Woven from the fine yarn of the neck of the cashmere goat, the wool mostly manifests itself in scarves, gloves and other wintry accoutrements, but that’s far from all it’s good for – from statement sweaters to a sophisticated pair of socks, there are a number of other ways to incorporate cashmere into your wardrobe this winter, and below are some examples that have just landed on site today. Scroll down for a few ways to wear them.

Cashmere sweaters usually come in muted and subtle shades, and while we’re still suckers for a great John Smedley pullover, a statement sweater in a bright pop colour feels particularly current. Warm enough for winter, but with all the sunniness of summer, this tennis-themed cashmere sweater from Thom Browne is the perfect way to volley a little Wimbledon prep into your cold-weather wardrobe. Team it with a pair of durable canvas sneakers, also from Thom Browne, and it’s game, set, match.

There are few pleasures greater than looking out at the chilly weather while encased in cashmere. This hoodie, from sleepwear brand Derek Rose, is perfect for a spell curled up on the sofa with a good book, or for getting snug with some Netflix. If that’s still not comfortable enough, the matching sweatpants should do the trick. You may think a full cashmere outfit seems excessive, but once you’re wrapped head to toe in sweats as comfy as this, we’re confident you’ll reconsider.

The perfect stocking fillers to bestow a little softness upon your Christmas morning, cashmere is at its most charming (and usually most affordable) when it comes to the accessories. These cable-knit socks are the product of a partnership between Kingsman and Carmarthenshire brand Corgi, who have more than a century’s experience making superb knitwear. Another brand with a solid reputation for their yarn skills is The Elder Statesman, and this ribbed cashmere beanie is a lesson in why – exquisitely soft, it’ll see you through this winter and a good many more.
