We’re all for a star-studded best dressed list, but celebrities don’t always provide us with the most practical menswear inspiration. See Mr Harry Styles performing at the Jingle Bell Ball in London last week in a glittery denim jumpsuit unbuttoned to his navel. Festive to be sure, but, well, not the easiest thing to emulate.
This month, however, we’ve been treated to a celebrity-endorsed trend that is much more straightforward to follow: all blue. That’s it. That’s the trend. Blue coats, blue sweaters, blue scarves and even blue sneakers. So, from Mr Kanye West to Messrs Chadwick Boseman and Alexander Skarsgård, here are three ways to wear the colour this winter.
Mr Kanye West

Mr Kanye West has had a good year. He and Ms Kim Kardashian had their fourth child (Psalm West, really), he released his hotly anticipated gospel album, Jesus Is King, and surpassed Jay-Z as the highest paid man in hip-hop. He’s not been doing too badly in the style stakes, either. Despite being pictured this week painted silver, here he is wearing something more down to earth – a cosy navy duvet coat layered over a blue sweater, plus a pair of cobalt work trousers – and giving us that trademark Yeezy grin. Winter blues have never looked so cheerful.
Mr Chadwick Boseman

On the red carpet in 2019, Mr Chadwick Boseman might have favoured spangled capes and statement blazers, but his lower-key daytime looks are also worth noting. Wearing a bright blue hoodie under a navy wool car coat and navy jacket gives a great tonal balance of colour and… What’s this? He’s even rocking a pair of sky-blue Nikes to finish the whole thing off.
Mr Alexander Skarsgård

Mr Alexander Skarsgård has a knack for playing the bad guy. He became a household name as Eric Northman in HBO’s True Blood, won a litany of awards for his terrifying performance as the abusive Perry White in Big Little Lies and next year will play the notorious villain Randall Flagg in an adaptation of Mr Stephen King’s The Stand. Here, though, he looks decidedly cosier wrapped up in a navy scarf, navy sweater and navy coat, with a pair of blue denim jeans. Not quite cuddly, but for a sharp cold-weather look, we’ll take it.
