It’s safe to say that we know Mr Wei Koh, founder of men’s magazine The Rake, rather well. Because of his line of work, we have always moved in similar circles. And so impressed were we by the cut of his suit (and his jib), we decided to make him a member of our Style Council. Not long ago, we asked him for his opinions on the art of the after-dinner drink. And, late last year, we collaborated with him on a watch auction called Styled. But suits, cocktails and wristwear are not the only passions we share. Travel is another. So we thought getting him to contribute to our “Weekend Guide To…” series should be the next thing on our list to do together. However, to make sure we got the best guide from him possible, we didn’t ask him to travel far. Just Singapore, his birthplace. Here are his quick tips should you ever find yourself there.

Where to eat

Preludio

“This is a new and brilliant restaurant in helmed by a Colombian chef trained at New York’s Institute of Culinary Education. It somehow manages to be energetically creative and soulfully delicious at the same time. And all this in a positively edifying setting. Meanwhile, Nouri, which takes its name from the word to “nourish”, does just that, but staged to a sublime, almost transcendent journey of the palate.”

Where to drink

“Essentially a wine bar set up in the lobby of the Regent hotel, but it boasts one of the greatest burgundy lists in all of Christendom and offers staggeringly good value.”

Where to stay

“Stay in a villa here. It will provide the ultimate reprieve from the teeming energy of Singapore, and yet you’re still a mere 20 minutes away from it.”

What to do

Straits Clan

“There are two new members’ clubs in Singapore catering to the urbane, hipster crowd that seems to have taken over the island. These are Straits Clan and 1880, both of which are charming places for drinks. Straits Clan is 500m away from CruCycle where I experience euphoria and near death on a daily basis with spin classes taught by Mandy Tay or Jolyn Yeo. And 1880 is populated by people far cooler than me.”

What to wear

“Go for a deconstructed linen, fresco, or hopsack blazer with a polo and Rubinacci trousers. For shoes: slip-on loafers.”
