Staff Picks: The Grooming Products On Our Wish List

Words by The MR PORTER Team

1 December 2021

As the year comes a close, it’s time to take stock and think about the important things in life. Such as what our hair looks like and which fragrance we want to wear. So, to give you some inspiration on how to end 2021 on a well-groomed high note (and enter the new year looking your best), we asked some of the MR PORTER editorial team to share the grooming products at the top of their holiday Wish Lists.

01.

Mr Chris Elvidge, Marketing Editor

After years of shaving daily with a disposable razor in the shower (it works, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it), I’ve succumbed to plastic guilt and transitioned to a less wasteful alternative. My first experiences of shaving were watching my dad do it with a badger brush and soap dish, so this old-school shaving set from Czech & Speake feels like coming home. Having said that, I don’t recall him ever having one quite this luxurious.

Ms Roni Omikorede, Deputy Chief Sub-Editor

I tend to be really lazy about anything to do with hair; as long as it looks presentable, then I’m good to go. This also means I don’t buy any hair products and I just use whatever my sister has on her shelf. The best way to keep me out of her supply is to gift me some of my very own. I’ll take the Volumizing Hair Mist by Larry King – it’ll add some volume to my hair after a wash and leave it smelling of vetiver, eucalyptus and jasmine.

03.

Mr Olie Arnold, Style Director

Like many people, I’m particularly loyal when it comes to the fragrance I wear. When I find one I love, I’ll stick with it for life. Last year, I was introduced to Laboratory Perfumes, a relatively new brand to the market, but one that has made a clear statement of intent in the industry and one that I’m wholly sold on. Amber is the latest one to take pride of place in my bathroom and has ingredients that take me out of my usual citrusy comfort zone, thanks to the spiced notes. I love the comforting feeling of putting on a piece of knitwear or coat that I’ve not worn for a few weeks and finding that it still carries the remnants of the scent.

04.

Mr Ashley Ogawa Clarke, Deputy Editor

All I want for Christmas is brilliant-looking skin with minimal effort involved. A tall order I know, but one I’m hoping Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare can fulfil with this skin-refining serum, which, through a clever blend of active ingredients, works to clear clogged pores and thus reduce their appearance.

05.

Mr Jim Merrett, Chief Sub Editor

Earlier this year, my son accidentally smashed my bottle of Jo Malone London cologne in our bathroom sink. No one was hurt, and for three weeks, the smallest room in our house smelt amazing. Now I’m looking for a replacement, which I’ll keep on a slightly higher shelf.
