Other people’s relationships are endlessly fascinating. From watching sparks fly on dating shows to listening in to therapy sessions on podcasts, we love everything to be aired. But when it comes to our own affairs, it turns out that we’re rather less keen to open up. And research conducted on behalf, rather ominously, of family-law specialists, found that a fifth of couples speak for less than half an hour per day. It’s against this startling but perhaps not-so-surprising-if-you’ve-ever-been-in-a-relationship backdrop to which couple’s check-ins have emerged as a hack to help us communicate with each other.
