TOM FORD has always known that a suit looks best with a bit of attitude. It’s an idea that runs through the label’s approach to tailoring, which is front and centre of its latest collection, exclusively at MR PORTER.

The codes are familiar but the mood is looser than you might expect – shirts are open at the collar, silk scarves are wrapped around without too much thought and leather trousers sit under a double-breasted jacket, so everything stays polished without ever feeling stiff.

A double-breasted pinstripe suit is cut long and lean, both in an office-friendly wool-twill and in an after-hours version, tailored in light-catching satin. The same shape is rendered in a dark, brushed cashmere, silk and mohair jacket and in a satin dinner jacket patterned with fine dots, both paired with wide pleated trousers.

Polka dots run through the whole line-up. They appear on silk scarves, sky blue over a navy overcoat or deep teal for textural contrast against the mohair, and on the tailoring itself – a small detail that ties everything together.

A power blue overcoat and a heavyweight brown shearling elevate the outerwear offering, while knitwear gets an upgrade with a blue silk sweater and the brushed cashmere crew neck, also produced in an exclusive fern-green colourway.

Elsewhere, a moss-green suede bomber jacket with a shearling collar goes over a grey silk shirt and black leather trousers. A teal, two-button blazer is worn open over a matching shirt and a white vest, with chocolate-brown trousers and suede loafers. It’s classic TOM FORD: polished, confident and entirely at ease.

The shoes and accessories are just as considered. The lizard-embossed Chelsea boots have a pointed toe and a Western edge, and they work as well with pinstripes as they do with leather. The suede tote will easily take you from the office to a weekend away, while the signature T hardware is present across a reversible belt and loafers.
