THE JOURNAL

Call it “low-key luxury”. Call it “stealth wealth”. Whatever you want to christen it, Brunello Cucinelli has it nailed. Never one to succumb to trend cycles or sneakily cut corners, the heritage Italian brand has built up a loyal and discerning following for its sumptuous fabrics and classic silhouettes that weather the test of time. It’s for the above reasons – among many others – that we’re rather delighted to present an exclusive-to-us “Unexpected Elegance” capsule that’s brimming with the sort of pared-back, thoughtfully conceived pieces that make the label a perennial MR PORTER bestseller. And while picking our favourites from an exceedingly luxurious bunch was an arduous task, we’ve narrowed it down to five soon-to-sell-out pieces that are worthy of your attention.
01.
The cashmere-trimmed bomber

Expect any cold-weather blues to be swiftly nixed by this heavenly bomber jacket. In fact, we’d go so far as to wager that you’ll be yearning for a drop in temperature just so you have an excuse to whip it out. The magic lies in its fluffy shearling lining, which should really be a prerequisite in all winter outerwear, while the ribbed cashmere trims only augment its appeal.

The melange rollneck

Brunello Cucinelli’s fabric-first philosophy is summed up rather neatly in this chunky rollneck sweater, which is fashioned from a delectable-sounding melange of virgin wool, cashmere and silk. In true Cucinelli fashion, it’s also a masterclass in meticulous attention to detail, too, with blue-and-white flecked yarn and contrasting trim cuffs.

The classic gilet

If the well-turned-out men wandering around the MR PORTER offices are anything to go by, the gilet is having a bit of a moment. This down-filled iteration keeps it timeless in silhouette, albeit with a hidden-away hood for downpours, and is tailormade for sandwiching under coats, over knits and anything else you can think of.

The flecked cardigan

Still not convinced by the comeback of the cardigan? Allow yourself to be seduced – and then swaddled – by this button-down knit in a deep shade of navy. The flecked Donegal wool (remixed with cashmere and a sprinkling of silk) takes its name from a county in Ulster, Ireland – but being a Brunello Cucinelli creation, this is all the Italians’ doing.

The padded corduroy trucker

A corduroy jacket might not be the most obvious port of call for the cooler months but, needless to say, this is not your run-of-the-mill corduroy jacket. Venture below that deceivingly handsome eggshell-blue surface and you’ll discover an ingenious padded lining that delivers all the warmth you could ever want this winter.
