THE JOURNAL

There was a time when you couldn’t move for minimalist interiors cluttering up your social media feeds, which, yes, is ironic. But now maximalism is back and it’s here to stay. In fact, when it comes to ornaments, knick-knacks and paraphernalia in our living spaces, we can’t get enough. Go big and go home, we say.
Which is where Buccellati comes in. The family-run prestigious jewellers, who also handcraft objets d’art of the finest quality, Buccellati is launching on MR PORTER with a beautiful collection of items for the man who appreciates the finer things in life, not to mention the finer details, but in a big way.
Mr Mario Buccellati opened his first jewellery store in Milan in 1919. By the 1950s, the brand’s founder had taken his business to the US, and earned the patronage of the Pope and European royalty. That Buccellati family legacy is fundamental to the brand and you can see that in the brand’s accessories, such as its gold and blackened-silver stoned cufflinks, which will complete any formal ensemble.

But the Italian house goes further, with designs on your home. Indeed, among the items available on MR PORTER is a silver bear with a gold-plated nose, said to symbolise power, wisdom, strength, and – sure, this might just be our interpretation – cuteness. Or if you’re more of a nautical, seaside guy, a silver octopus dish could be more to your taste. Now, if there’s one thing we’ve learnt from My Octopus Teacher, the Oscar-winning Netflix documentary, it is that octopi make for great companions. To take the marine theme further with the brand’s silver octopus dish – an excellent addition, or conversation starter, at the dinner party table. (We certainly wouldn’t ladle up our daily 000-grade beluga cavier with anything less.)
