You can tell a lot about a man from the moisturiser he uses. It’s the one product that can make all the difference between beatific skin or just looking beat down, and choosing the right one is paramount if you want your skin at its most hydrated. Moisturising isn’t just about slathering on some cream and hoping you won’t break out; in 2020 it’s much more specialised than that. So, here are six super-hydrating products to help keep you looking your best.
01. The bio-cellulose sheet mask
Not just for posting on Instagram, a sheet mask is an educated way to give your skin a quick moisture hit. Harley Street skincare brand 111Skin is particularly strong in this field – this bio-cellulose mask contains a powerhouse infusion of silk amino acids (good for reducing fine lines) and arbutin, a natural ingredient derived from the bearberry plant that brightens skin. Put it on for 20 minutes and let the cooling gel infuse your skin with new life.
02. The hydrating heavy-hitter
Dr. Barbara Sturm might have gained fame for her “vampire facial” (seriously, google it), but she is probably better be known as the queen of good hydration. Her eponymous brand’s hyaluronic serum is nonpareil when it comes to moisturising. It goes onto skin slightly sticky, but is absorbed in seconds, leaving skin looking radiant and pores reduced, thanks to the abundance of hyaluronic molecules that allow the skin to retain large amounts of water. And it now comes in a limited-edition, long-lasting 100ml size. The brand also does the serum in 30ml, however, so you can give it a go before you become a proper devotee. Which we think you will.
03. The reliable all-rounder
When it comes to incorporating natural ingredients into top-shelf skincare, you’d be hard pushed to beat Elemis. The brand’s appropriately titled S.O.S. Survival Cream is just the thing for parched or dull skin, and will turn things around quickly with its refreshing and hydrating blend of eucalyptus and lavender absolute. Oh, and it’s also great for soothing post-shaving irritation, which in our book makes for a great all-round moisturiser that every man should have to hand in his bathroom cabinet.
04. The LED marvel
Move over Patrick Bateman; if you want to really give your grooming regimen a pioneering edge, look to The Light Salon, which incorporates LED technology into its skincare. Its hydrogel face masks are designed to be used in conjunction with its LED mask for ultimate anti-ageing gains, though the hydrolysed collagen it’s infused with will give you a brilliant hydrating boost when used on its own, too.
05. The specialist moisturiser
Calming and cooling, this hyaluronic marine moisturiser is a weightless, oil-free cream from Dr. Dennis Gross that melts easily into the skin without leaving any residue, but somehow banishes any hint of dryness. That’s down to the hyaluronic acid inside, as well as a potent mix of Japanese algae and amino acids. Particularly good for keeping super-moisturised in the warmer months without ever appearing greasy.
06. The necessary afterthought
Now that your face is now hyper-hydrated thanks to all of the above, let’s turn our attention to the most overlooked area of skincare: the body. This everyday lotion from Doers of London is made from a hybrid of shea and cocoa butter, is packed full of anti-inflammatory and astringent ingredients to keep skin clear and calm. It will remedy ashy knees or elbows and transform you from a dehydrated and dull husk of a man into something much more attractive by the time summer arrives.
